kingdoms:farms

Farms

Farms are one of the smallest locations of interest. Currently, they are the only locations of interest. They are randomly generated as part of the Landscape.

Each farm will have a name, which isn't guaranteed to be unique.

A farm will generally consist of:

  • 9×9 map of the farmhouse and fields.
  • The farmhouse. This is where people live.
  • Animals. General farm animals, such as cows and pigs. Not huge excitement, but may be of some use, and probably should be there for realism sake.

Random bits of terrain:

  • Fields. Probably not much of interest in fields.
  • Pasture. Maybe some cows and other animals.
  • Ponds. Not sure how interesting these could be.
  • Orchard.
  • Well.

Might have a small ruin or shrine on the property. Some farms might sell horses or dogs. Faeries and ghosts also an option.

Characters

Will probably need a farmer character to be generated for the farm. Ignore the rest of the family, since that's too complicated. Might have some old item that has been in the family for years etc.

Plots

Farms could be a potential source of plots. Plots will be randomly generated on creation, and after a plot is solved. Any given plot can only be solved once.

  • Grievance with a neighbour.
  • Sick family member, needs a cure to be found.
  • Need a message to be taken somewhere.
  • Something has been stolen or lost.
  • Faerie to pacify (rare).
  • Ghost to lay to rest (rare).

Special

A few farms will have special features. Possibly 10% of farms will have something unusual, though only about 10% of these unusual features will be anything really special. A farm will have at most one of these.

Unusual features

  • Buried treasure.
  • Small ruin (probably Roman).
  • Faerie or magic pond/tree. Just an aura, no associated region.
  • Shrine to a saint. Small Divine aura.
  • Herb garden.

Rare features

  • Ruin with associated dungeon.
  • Faerie/magic place with region into Faerie or Magic realm.
  • Divine feature that provides miracles (healing?).
  • Infernal cult.
